Every Pal has a hidden breeding power value. For normal breeding, the child's target value is calculated from the parents' average. We covered breeding power in our first article, but here is a quick refresher.
Normal breeding formula
Child target breeding power = floor((Parent 1 breeding power + Parent 2 breeding power + 1) / 2)
The child is the eligible normal-result Pal closest to that target value. If two Pals are equally close, the one with the higher breeding power is chosen.
Note: special breeding recipes do not use this normal formula.
The main table is sorted by Paldeck number. Terraria collaboration Pals do not have Paldeck numbers, so they are listed separately and cannot be sorted.
With that approach in mind, is there a low-breeding-power Pal you can catch or hatch early?
The answer is yes.
In a future guide, I'll explain how to use breeding power and breeding formulas to identify the key Pals for early-game breeding routes.
