After laying the groundwork in the previous guides, we can get to the most important part of the breeding series: special breeding recipes.
Here is the conclusion first: starting with Pals you can catch early, this route uses special breeding-power jumps to hatch a
Jormuntide Ignis with breeding power 170—without relying on the usual late-game egg runs or high-tier Sphere runs.
Why is this guide so important? In 1.0, Pals available in early areas generally have high breeding power, while late-game Pals generally have low breeding power. To make that visible, filter the Paldex for Pals with a level 8 Work Suitability.
Full list, sorted by Paldeck number:
| No. | Pal | Breeding Power | Work Suitability | Level | Elements | Breeding | Lowest-level Spawn Region |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 157B | 270 | Lumbering | Lv.8 | Special | The World Tree | ||
| 182 | 280 | Handiwork | Lv.8 | Normal | The World Tree | ||
| 183 | 290 | Kindling | Lv.8 | Normal | The World Tree | ||
| 184 | 30 | Mining | Lv.8 | Normal | The World Tree | ||
| 187 | 120 | Generating Electricity | Lv.8 | Self-breed | The World Tree | ||
| 191 | 50 | Cooling | Lv.8 | Self-breed | The World Tree | ||
| 192 | 40 | Watering | Lv.8 | Self-breed | The World Tree | ||
| 193 | 80 | Medicine Production | Lv.8 | Self-breed | The World Tree | ||
| 194 | 60 | Planting | Lv.8 | Self-breed | The World Tree | ||
| 202 | 70 | Gathering | Lv.8 | Self-breed | Sunreach |
Not sure what this means? How Minimum Spawn Levels and Region Tiers Work in the Palworld Breeding Power Table
In the current version, Pals with level 8 Work Suitability are mostly late-Paldeck, late-game Pals. They have low breeding power and are found in high-level areas. Even
Renjishi, the highest among them, has only 290 breeding power; the rest are lower still.
Let's revisit the normal breeding formula in Palworld 1.0:
Child target breeding power = floor((Father's breeding power + Mother's breeding power + 1) / 2)
Under normal breeding, the target breeding power always falls between the parents' values. The actual hatchling is the Pal whose breeding power is closest to that target, so its actual value can fall slightly outside the parents' range. In the current data, 111 normal-breeding combinations produce a child slightly below both parents. Those deviations are small; this guide is about special recipes that make much larger jumps.
If all you can catch early are Pals such as
Lamball and
Cattiva with breeding power above 2,000, it looks as though you cannot hatch those late-game Pals. Obtain one sufficiently low-power Pal early, however, and it becomes a foothold for breeding paths to most late-game Pals.
So the real question is how to obtain a sufficiently low-power Pal early.
Existing breeding guides often unlock most late-game Pals early by first obtaining a
Jormuntide Ignis with breeding power 170. The familiar approaches are late-game egg runs and high-tier Sphere runs.
The first is an egg-hunting run: travel to Feybreak, search for a Huge Dragon Egg, and hope it hatches into
Jormuntide Ignis. It is a difficult trip across the sea and through a dangerous region.
A more structured egg route is to fly to Mount Obsidian and search for a Huge Scorching Egg. If one hatches into
Blazamut with breeding power 410, you can breed a
Jormuntide with power 590, then a
Blazehowl with power 1,360, and finally hatch
Jormuntide Ignis.
The other route is a high-tier Sphere run: reach Feybreak, use the fast-travel point to Sunreach, loot high-tier Pal Spheres, and use them to attempt an early capture of
Jormuntide Ignis or
Jormuntide.
The idea behind these routes is sound: find a key Pal with low enough breeding power. But they require game knowledge and execution, and one mistake in a high-level area can get a new player knocked out quickly.
Is there a way to reach
Jormuntide Ignis without relying on a late-game egg run or high-tier Sphere run—by catching early Pals and breeding from there?
Yes. Follow the main and side quests normally, reach level 19 to unlock the Breeding Farm, catch a few Pals available around level 20, and you can begin a breeding-only route without entering high-level areas.
That is why this is the core of the series: how can early Pals lead, through breeding alone, to late-game Pals? Or more specifically, how can high-breeding-power Pals hatch low-breeding-power Pals?
The answer lies in special breeding recipes.
Some Pals require one exact parent pair. In other words, a particular pair produces a fixed child regardless of the parents' breeding power.
Can one of these recipes create a child with lower breeding power than both parents?
Yes. Some produce a child with breeding power far below either parent.
The table below contains 81 special recipes in 1.0, excluding self-breeds and Terraria collaboration Pals. By default, it shows the nine key recipes with a breeding power drop of at least 400; clear the filters to see all of them.
Breeding Power Drop = lower parent breeding power − child breeding power
| Parent 1 | Parent 2 | Child | Breeding Power Drop |
|---|---|---|---|
| 820 | |||
| 740 | |||
| 650 | |||
| 570 | |||
| 560 | |||
| 550 | |||
| 460 | |||
| 450 | |||
| 420 |
The number in parentheses is that Pal's breeding power.
The table starts with two active filters, and the result is hard to miss: a special recipe can reduce breeding power by as much as 820. Use several of those recipes in sequence and you can keep hatching lower-power Pals. In practice, Pals that are easy to catch around level 20 can lead, through breeding alone, to the key Pal
Jormuntide Ignis and then to most other Pals.
Here is the target recipe:
Jormuntide +
Blazehowl =
Jormuntide Ignis
You only need
Jormuntide with power 590 and
Blazehowl with power 1,360. The rest of this guide shows how to reach them.
The breeding-power descent looks like this. Numbers in parentheses are breeding power; the supporting parent routes are explained below.
Loupmoon +
Sweepa →
Loupmoon Cryst (1,290) →
Petallia Ignis (820) →
Cryolinx Terra (470) →
Jormuntide (590) +
Blazehowl (1,360) →
Jormuntide Ignis (170)
Once you are in the teens, go to Crescent Moon Shore at night to catch a level 14
Loupmoon. They are common at night and easy to catch. Then catch the level 11 Alpha Boss
Sweepa in Sea Breeze Archipelago.
Those are the parents in the first recipe at the top of the table.
By level 19, when you can unlock the Breeding Farm, both are very manageable catches.
Prepare the following catches for the full route as well:
Breed
Loupmoon with
Sweepa to get
Loupmoon Cryst—a Pal you would normally encounter at level 40 in the snowy mountains.
With
Loupmoon Cryst at breeding power 1,290, you can hatch the parents for
Petallia Ignis:
Petallia at 1,720 and
Bushi at 1,560. Both are normal-breeding Pals.
Loupmoon Cryst +
Sweepa =
Petallia
Loupmoon Cryst +
Azurobe =
Bushi
Loupmoon Cryst +
Xenovader =
Bushi
As explained in the previous guide, you can fish a level 10
Azurobe at Isle of Decayed Treasures, east of the Eastern Wild Island. That is an easy target around level 20. Alternatively, a supply event can provide a level 13
Xenovader, which also lets you breed
Bushi.
You can now hatch
Petallia Ignis with breeding power 820.
We have now used the two largest breeding-power drops. Next you could make the third-ranked
Warsect Terra or the fourth-ranked
Cryolinx Terra. Choose
Cryolinx Terra: its breeding power is 470, lower than
Warsect Terra at 630.
Cryolinx Terra is a special-breeding Pal with one recipe:
Cryolinx +
Dazemu. You do not have either parent yet, so the route below uses the breeding path planner to find the shortest path from the Pals you already own.
Minimum generations: 4
Once you have
Cryolinx Terra with breeding power 470, you can hatch
Jormuntide with breeding power 590.
Cryolinx Terra +
Ghangler Ignis =
Jormuntide
Cryolinx Terra +
Whalaska =
Jormuntide
We do not have
Ghangler Ignis or
Whalaska yet. Because
Ghangler Ignis is itself a special-breeding Pal, prioritise
Whalaska. With
Cryolinx Terra, use either of the following recipes after breeding
Ghangler or
Sekhmet.
Cryolinx Terra +
Ghangler =
Whalaska
Cryolinx Terra +
Sekhmet =
Whalaska
Ghangler has Watering level 5, making it a useful mid-game transition Pal. It can also help breed
Ghangler Ignis and
Blazehowl.
Sekhmet has Handiwork level 6, one of the strongest early-to-mid-game Handiwork Pals; paired with
Anubis, it can increase Anubis's work speed.
Once you have
Whalaska, use the recipe above to hatch
Jormuntide.
Only
Blazehowl remains before you can breed
Jormuntide Ignis. It is easy to hatch, for example:
Azurobe +
Ghangler =
Blazehowl
If you caught a level 11
Wispaw while catching
Loupmoon at night, you can instead use:
Wispaw +
Cryolinx Terra =
Blazehowl
With
Jormuntide and
Blazehowl ready, you can now hatch
Jormuntide Ignis.
To recap, catch
Loupmoon at night in Crescent Moon Shore, the Sea Breeze Archipelago Alpha Boss
Sweepa, and
Azurobe plus
Eikthyrdeer Terra in No. 1 Wildlife Sanctuary. If you do not want to visit the sanctuary, you can instead breed a few additional early Pals. Also catch a
Nitewing along the way. A supply-event
Xenovader can replace
Azurobe when breeding
Bushi.
Wispaw is optional, but makes step 6 simpler. Everything else in this route is bred.
Open the Palworld 1.0 Breeding Power Table – All Pals and sort by breeding power. With
Jormuntide Ignis and the high-power parents retained during this route, you can hatch every normal-breeding Pal listed after it.
For example,
Solenne has breeding power 280. Starting with the Pals already obtained in this route, it takes just two more generations:
Minimum generations: 2
Catch
Loupmoon,
Sweepa,
Azurobe,
Eikthyrdeer Terra, and
Nitewing early (
Xenovader can replace
Azurobe for breeding
Bushi;
Wispaw is optional). Without relying on a late-game egg run or high-tier Sphere run, breed
Loupmoon Cryst,
Petallia,
Bushi,
Petallia Ignis,
Cryolinx Terra,
Jormuntide, and
Blazehowl in sequence to finally hatch
Jormuntide Ignis with breeding power 170. Together with the high-power parents retained along the way, it opens normal-breeding routes to most late-game Pals.
Before starting the route, open the
Loupmoon details page and the
Sweepa details page to see their spawn maps and locations. These are the two Pals used in the first special breeding combination.
